Obituary of Carol Ann Johnson
Carol Ann Johnson (Boisselle) was born in Yakima, Washington on June 26, 1942 and passed away May 29, 2019 at the age of 76. She lived with her parents in the small, rural town of Brownstown, Washington until her marriage to Whitford E. Johnson on May 20, 1961. Carol and Whit moved to Aberdeen following their wedding, to Seattle and settled forever in Portland, Oregon where she and Whit raised their sons.
Carol worked in several unique careers: bank teller, physical therapy assistant, and lastly as a beloved teacher at Childpeace Montessori School. She was also a Creative Memories consultant and her family will be blessed by her 70 plus albums of beautiful memories. She loved to travel and was able to travel often in the summers with her siblings, friends, and with her son, daughter-in-law and her two grandsons. She cherished each trip home and abroad. She also loved gardening, swimming, reading, and never stopped in her quest to continue to learn. She obtained degrees as a physical therapy assistant from Mt. Hood Community College and a master’s degree in Education from Marylhurst University.
Carol was a beautiful person and faithful servant. All those who had the privilege of walking with her as she traveled this journey through her illness saw her never-wavering faith. She lifted the spirits of all around her by her bravery and powerful belief that God had a plan just for her. Carol was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, daughter, granddaughter, aunt, cousin, in-law and friend to everyone she knew and loved. She will be forever missed.
She is survived by her devoted and loving husband of 58 years and 9 days, Whit, and her two sons:Gerald Paul (Kim) of Aloha, OR and Robert Christopher (Theresa) of Portland, OR as well as her two beloved grandsons:Kai David and Wes Charles of Portland, OR. She is also survived by eight siblings:Francis “Butch” (Carole) of Estacada, OR, Connie Merz (Marcus) of Blaine, MN, Dorothy Heintz (Del) of Temecula, CA, Marjorie Balch (Dennis) of Harrah, WA, David (Joan) of Sperryville, VA, James (Susan) of Harrah, WA, Douglas of Vancouver, WA, and Mary Boisselle of Seattle, WA and is survived by numerous nieces, nephews,and cousins. She is also survived by her cherished friend, Cheryl Noxon of Portland, Oregon who was by her side for over 34 years. A special thanks to Carol’s daughter-in-law, Theresa for her devoted care and constant love throughout Carol’s illness.
She was predeceased by her parents Lois Mary Shields-Boisselle and Elmer Joseph Boisselle, her brothers Robert and Richard, and sister Rosalie.
A Memorial Mass will be held, with reception following, Saturday, June 29th at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Portland, 5227 N. Bowdoin St., Portland, OR 97203.
