Obituary of Thomas William DeSouza

Tom DeSouza died June 4, 2019 at the Willamette Valley Hospice Tokarski Home in Salem following a lengthy battle with lung disease. The family sends its deep appreciation to the Tokarski House staff for their exceptional care of Tom in his final days. Tom was born to Bill and Irene DeSouza in Salem, where he graduated from North Salem High School in 1973. After attending the University of Oregon, Tom worked in business, primarily in the sand and gravel industry. He was highly involved in public service, and was elected to the Salem City Council in 1994. Tom continued to volunteer at various civic organizations later in life. A life-long passionate reader, Tom passed with a collection of Hemmingway short stories on his bedside table. While music, good food, fly fishing, and friends were important aspects of Tom’s life, the love for his children was held above any other. Tom is survived by his former wife, Glenna (Maudlin) DeSouza, and their three children. Thomas and his wife Amanda live in Houston, Texas with their son Isaiah and daughter Olivia. Gina DeSouza Tonso lives in Cheyenne, Wyoming with her husband Tyler and their daughter Eva. Steven lives in Seattle, Washington. Tom also is survived by siblings Bob and Nancy of Salem, and Mike of Bend. At Tom's request, no service is planned at this time.
