Obituary of Josephine Adell Greer

Jo was born in Dorris California to James and Maud Arnold. Shortly after she was born their house was loaded up on a lumber train and moved to Butte Falls Oregon. During World War 2 the family moved to the Portland area where she worked in the shipyards. A friend talked her in to going to nursing school at St Joseph’s School of Nursing in Vancouver. She received her nursing license the day the war ended. The family moved back to Medford Oregon where she met Paul Greer at the First Christian Church in downtown Medford. They married on December 27, 1948. Jo worked at the Sacred Heart Hospital up on the hill and then for Dr. Lawrence Buonocore in private practice until she had her first child. She went back to work at Rogue Valley Memorial Hospital in 1970 when her youngest child was in 3rd grade. She retired in 1989 as an orthopedic RN. Paul and Jo Belonged to the Central Church of Christ until both Paul and Jo retired and they traveled and camped in various Oregon campgrounds. Frequently their grandchildren camped with them. Jo took up wood carving and has made a few carved wooden pictures. She is survived by her brother Harold Arnold as well as her five children: Jeanette Ryan, Jocelyn Weeks, Paula Greer, Don Greer and Ellen Wise. She has four grandchildren: Frieda, Adelle, Alex, Adrianne; and eight great grandchildren: Avery, Nicholas, Saydie, Trinity, Matilda, Hunter, Paul and Lucia. She was preceded in death by her husband Paul, brother Edwin, and grandson Carlo. She will be interred at Willamette National Veteran’s Cemetery on Portland Oregon with Paul.
