Obituary of Michael Coren O'Brien
Micheal Coren (Corey) O'Brien was born June 4, 1970 and passed away May 21, 2019.
Michael O'Brien, known as Corey to friends and family, left us peacefully at home in Portland, Oregon at 3:57am on May 21st. His partner of 9 years, Dominique Dore' and their beloved cat Fred were by his side. His sister Jana O'Brien was also present at the time of his passing.
Born in Tuscaloosa, AL on June 4, 1970, he will be warmly remembered by all those who had a chance to know him. He was an avid reader and explorer and lover of nature, animals and history. His passion for history culminated in a Bachelors Degree from University of Alabama with a focus in American and Irish History and travels throughout Europe and the US. As a child in a military family, he grew up in AL, TX, NC, VA and CA. As an adult he lived in Dublin and Belfast, Ireland, Ketchikan, Tuscaloosa, Modesto, Oakland and San Francisco before finally settling in Portland.
He was open-minded and compassionate, always looking out and speaking up for the underdog. He loved a good debate, books, music and was a great storyteller.
Survivors include his partner Dominique Dore' and cat Fred (Portland), mother Jackie O'Brien (Tuscaloosa) sisters Jana O'Brien and Kylie O'Brien (both of Tuscaloosa), brother Scott O'Brien (Tuscaloosa), niece Dennie Stuffel (Tuscaloosa) and nephews Zane Smith, Adrian Smith, and George Stuffel (all of Tuscaloosa). He was preceded in death by his father Philip O'Brien (Duncanville AL).
