Obituary of William Lloyd Chauncey
Beloved husband, father, and friend, William “Bill” Lloyd Chauncey died on Wednesday, May 8, 2019, in Portland, Oregon, after a prolonged battle with Rheumatoid Arthritis and Fibromyalgia. Bill was a gentle giant who never met a stranger. He loved the Lord and lived out his faith by connecting immediately with everyone he met. A humble servant to the core, he sought, found and amplified the best in others.
Bill grew up in Clarkton, North Carolina and graduated from Clarkton High School. He went on to serve his country for almost nine years in the United States Army, achieving the rank of Sergeant. While on Recruiting duty for the Army, he married Bonnie McKinney Chauncey. Together they had one daughter and he adopted her son.
Later, Bill moved with his family to Orlando, Florida, and after the passing of wife Bonnie, he met and married Lois Dinkins Chauncey, becoming the stepfather to her two children. Bill and his family lived several places, most notably in Charleston, South Carolina, where he served the city and guests from around the world as a certified historic tour guide. He also actively and lovingly served as a host parent for The Citadel Military College in Charleston, touching the lives of many cadets and their families. Bill later worked at the Student Health Center for Trine University in Angola, Indiana, where he was beloved by all. Most recently he was employed as a Project Coordinator for CMI in Portland - a job and co-workers he loved. He attended Horizon Community Church, Lake Oswego Campus, Lake Oswego, Oregon.
Bill is survived by wife, Lois, children Xander Chauncey Flynn of New York, New York, Meghan Chauncey Jaggers of Charleston, South Carolina, Jenna Anderson and Daniel Mitchell of Portland, Oregon, granddaughter Cameron Anderson of Portland, Oregon, and mother Margaret Sanderson Pope and sister Sarah Chauncey Thompson of Clarkton, North Carolina. Additional surviving family includes uncle, Fred Chauncey of Raleigh, North Carolina, aunt, Nellie Chauncey Martin of Clarkton, North Carolina, in-laws, Edward and Patricia Dinkins of Lakeland, Florida, and numerous other family members across the Southeastern United States. He is the son of James Lloyd Chauncey who predeceased him.
