Obituary of Samuel Ray Peschl

Samuel Ray "Sam I Am" Peschl, 61, of Astoria, died Sunday, May 2, 2010, in Portland. He was born March 14, 1949, in Longview, Wash., to Samuel and Freida (Mueller) Peschl. His parents preceded him in death. He served in the U.S. Army. In September 1995, he married Carolyn Peschl. She survives, residing in Knappa, OR. Mr. Peschl was a mechanic and scrapper. He lived in Clatsop County most of his life, with brief stints in Portland and Canyonville. Family members said he loved anything rusty, particularly Model As and old Fords. He got a lot of pleasure helping others. He loved animals, and they loved him. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Steven and Marissa Peschl of Carson, OR; two daughters and a son-in-law, Christy Peschl of Astoria and Cathy Jo and Darwin Rig of Seaburg; five stepdaughters, Denise Rockwood and her husband, Brent, of Westport, Carolyn Little and her husband, Lee, Sharon Mayes and Becky Nelson, all of Portland, and Wendy White of Riddle; and a stepson, Toby Mayes, and his wife, Leah, of Knappa. He also has 29 grandchildren and great-grandchildren that survive h8im. A memorial will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 8, 2010 at Westport Community Church, 4926 Highway 30 in Westport, with a celebration of life to follow. Arrangements by Crown Memorial Center - Portland.
