Obituary of Donna Jean Walker
Donna Jean Walker, nee’ Smock, surrounded by her family, peacefully passed away at home on the morning of May 1, 2019 after a long battle with Multiple Myeloma. She was 86.
She was born on October 3, 1932 in Clyde, Kansas. She moved with her family to Adna, Washington where she attended Adna High School, graduating with the class of 1951. She married John Jurgensen in 1951. She had her son John Jr. followed by daughters Nancy and Merry. They divorced and she married Russell Moorhead in 1960. Together, they had son Jeff and daughter Melanie. They divorced in 1972. Donna married again to LaMar Walker in 1979 and remained married until his death in 2011.
Donna pursued a career in law enforcement in the early 1970s in Salem, Oregon. She was passionate about her work and loved working for the sheriff’s office in both Marion County and Deschutes County. She finished her career in law enforcement working for the Keizer Police Department in Keizer, Oregon.
Never one to stay put for long, she and LaMar worked and lived in Oregon, Utah, Arizona, Alaska, and Washington before settling in Scappoose, Oregon. After LaMar passed, Donna moved to Newberg to be closer to family. After her cancer diagnosis, she moved to Avamere Assisted Living in Sherwood. She had many friends there and was very happy in her remaining years. She made many friends who were very important to her, including her forever friend Joe Adams. She and her family are forever grateful for the excellent care of the many dedicated caregivers and staff of Avamere. She will be dearly missed by everyone who knew her.
She is predeceased by her parents Emma Walls MacGregor and Cecil Smock, her sister Ilene Smock, her brother Richard Smock, and grandson Allen Moorhead. She is survived by sisters Shirley Baker of Salt Lake City, UT, Sharon Robinson of Salem, OR, and sister in law Delores Smock of Clatskanie, OR; son John Jurgensen (Hilary) of Vancouver, WA, daughter Nancy Fuller (Bruce) of Salem, OR, daughter Merry Hettman of Vancouver, WA, son Jeff Moorhead of Portland, OR, and daughter Melanie Mildenberger (Jefferson) of Sherwood, OR; her many adored grandchildren include Denise Severson (Keith) of Salem, OR, Adam Clancy of Joshua Tree, CA, Aaron Clancy (Jaimee) of Maple Valley, WA, Amber Wedlake (Rich) of Maple Valley, WA, Austin Clancy (Karissa) Wilmington, NC, Corbin Charpentier of Longview, WA, Nick Jurgensen (Daina) of Norfolk, VA, Nathan Jurgensen of Vancouver, WA, Samantha Moorhead of Salt Lake City, UT, Crystal Moorhead of Salt Lake City, UT; Rowan Dunning of Sherwood, OR, Cameron Dunning of Sherwood, OR, and Miles Mildenberger of Sherwood, OR. Her great-grandchildren include K.C. Serverson, Konnor Severson, Felicity Clancy, Natalie Clancy, Liam Clancy, Samuel Kojaku-Clancy, Isabella Clancy, Maeve Clancy, Declan Clancy, Toryn Clancy, Ariya Charpentier, Harlan Charpentier. Ellanor Wedlake, Sullivan Wedlake, and Weston Wedlake.
There will be celebration of life on July 14, 2019 at the Scappoose RV Park on Honeyman Rd in Scappoose, Oregon. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to be made in her name to the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation or the Behind The Badge Foundation.
