Obituary of Gene Bowers
Donald Eugene Bowers died at home after a short illness on April 1, 2010. He was the son of Lloyd H. Bowers and Margaret A. Arens, born in Portal, ND. Gene graduated from Kenmare High School in 1954 and entered the Army in 1957. He married Beverly A. Luth November 26, 1960 in Kenmare, ND. Gene and Beverly moved to Salem, OR in 1965, from Williston, ND. Gene worked at Allen’s Hardware until 1972 and then began his career at Brooks Hardware. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Sons of Labish, and Hobo Sam RV. He loved playing Pinochle, outdoor sports and storytelling with many of his friends. Gene is survived by his wife of 49 years, Beverly; son Richard (Sheri) of Salem; daughter Teresa (Thomas) Bender of Shaw; brother Loren Bowers of Sherwood, ND and many nieces and nephews. A Funeral Mass will be held Wednesday, April 7, 11 AM with 10:30 Rosary, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 1025 Columbia St. NE, Salem. Interment will be at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Shaw. Contributions can be made to St. Vincent de Paul Church or Willamette Valley Hospice.
