Obituary of Ryan Daniel Robertson

In Loving Memory of

Ryan Daniel Robertson

Ryan passed away peacefully in the arms of his wife on February 14, 2023, after a fierce battle with cancer. He was 46 years old and taken from us too soon. He was an intelligent, caring, thoughtful, funny and spectacular man who will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Ryan was born and raised in Fresno, California to loving parents, Dan and Nancy Robertson. He had an idyllic, happy childhood and enjoyed playing with his younger sister and their cats, swimming in their pool, riding his bikes, playing paintball with his buddies, looking up at the stars and spending time with his friends and family. Growing up in the 80s meant he could run and play outside until the sun went down. He loved science, physics, space, math and computers and could often be found building or experimenting in his parents’ garage. One of his favorites was his potato gun.

As a young man, Ryan knew the importance of working hard. He held many jobs over the years including car audio and alarm installation, internet startups and found his true talent working on computers and databases. He worked at a surgery center and heart hospital in Fresno.

Ryan met Amy in 2000 and they immediately felt a connection stronger than anything they had ever experienced. They married on September 14, 2002. Shortly thereafter, they traveled to Portland, Oregon to visit and fell in love with the beauty of it all. They quit their jobs, sold their house, prepared for an adventure and moved to Portland in 2006. They enjoyed hiking and photography, frequent trips to Maui and the Oregon coast, boating on the rivers with Amy’s parents, cuddling with their cats, cooking and listening to music and spending time with friends and neighbors.

In Portland, Ryan’s career took off. He worked as a Database Administrator for Vesta, Schnitzer Steel, IBM/Seterus and eventually landed at WebMD Health Services as their Database Administrator/Architect and Manager of the DBA team. He made lifelong friends along the way and was loved and respected by his colleagues and co-workers.

Ryan is survived by his wife of 20 years, Amy Kelleen Robertson, and his beloved cats, Riley and Dexter; his sister, Kate Robertson and niece Claire; loving parents-in-law, Nick and Karen Gobble; brother Mark Gobble; his Uncle Dave and Aunt Terry Phillips and cousins Sam, Betsy and Sara; Susan and George Reid and cousins, Garrett Augustus, Karen and Kirsten; and lifelong friends, Jeff Deaver, Paul Barlow, Drew Magyar, Danny and Peggy Steveson, and Shane and Cindi Steffanson. He is predeceased by his loving parents, Daniel Bruce Robertson and Nancy Karen Robertson; and his grandparents, Wayne and Betty Phillips.

A Celebration of Life will be held in Portland in the spring when the weather is warm and the flowers are blooming. We look forward to the day that we gather to honor Ryan and share all of our memories. A notice will be sent to family and friends.
