Obituary of Van Allen Harmon

Van Allen Harmon, born December 22, 1940, in Springfield, Missouri, passed away on January 30, 2023, at age 82, following a long illness. He is survived by his spouse, Phyllis Ann Harmon.
Van was a lifelong student. His greatest joy was researching and learning about other cultures, health practices, and travel. He served two tours in Viet Nam as a Special Forces medic and several years in the Army Reserves and Oregon National Guard. During his service, he was honored with the Croix de Guerre of France, twice recognized as a soldier of the year, was awarded a Purple Heart for battlefield injuries, and met the Shah of Iran, Mohammad Reza Pahlavi.
He married Phyllis Fero in 1967. They were married for 55 years. He was preceded in death by their daughter, Kelley Rene. He is survived by his wife, five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, brother Dean Harmon of Ackworth, Georgia, sister Robin Blackburn of Beaverton, Oregon, and four nieces and nephews.
Internment to be at Willamette National Cemetery. No services are planned, but please feel free to share your memories of Van below.
