Obituary of Bruce Michael Skyles

Bruce "Mike" Michael Skyles was born on February 11th, 1954 in Klamath Falls, Oregon to Donald and RosaLea Skyles. Mike spent majority of his childhood years including grade school and middle school in Klamath Falls. In 1968, his family moved to Alviso, California where he attended and graduated from high school. Steve Davidson (close friend) and Mike spent time working and enjoying their high school years together. Shortly after high school, Mike joined the US Army and served 3 years. He married his first wife Debra Skyles before leaving to serve his country. Mike was honorably discharged from the Army in June 1975.

Leaving the San Francisco Bay Area in 1992 to continue his career supporting the US Department of Defense, Bruce "Mike" co-founded Alpha Research & Technology, Inc. (ART), an Aerospace & Defense company headquartered in El Dorado Hills, California with two other co-founding partners. Prior to his retirement in 2004, Mike successfully served as ART’s Vice President of Operations aiding in the development of the company’s workforce and delivery of innovative solutions, specifically to the US military’s aviation community. Mike’s contributions have been formally recognized by senior leaders of the US military and the US Government’s National Command Authority. He will forever be remembered as one of the hardest working people in the room, with an unmatched level of tenacity and perseverance in everything he did.

In 2011, Mike moved to Newberg, Oregon and married Marliene Fuller-Skyles. Mike enjoyed traveling, camping, watching western movies, reading Louis L’Amour books, and never passed up a chance to enjoy a nice steak dinner or strawberry ice cream. Mike devoted himself to caring for his family and always went out of his way to help however he could. Mike will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

He passed in peace surrounded by family in Portland, Oregon at the age of 68. Bruce is survived by wife Marliene Fuller-Skyles, daughter Robin Steinhoff, his mother RosaLea Rathbun, Grandson Reece Tinay and Granddaughter Ryla Tinay, brother Terry Skyles, sister Linda Stoaks, four stepdaughters, and four Great Grandchildren. He is proceeded in death by his father Donald Skyles, son Manuel Miller, and Debra Skyles.

Mike will be laid to rest at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, Oregon on February 6th, 2023. He will be honored with a graveside service where his family and friends will be in attendance.
