Obituary of Janice Ruecker
Janice Ruecker, 94, passed peacefully on October 3, surrounded by her children and grandchildren.
Jan was born to Lark and Edith Brown in Clatskanie, Oregon. Her older sister, Elinor, was her best friend. Jan graduated from Warrenton High School and went on to become a certified lab and x-ray technician.
She and Curt Ruecker were married at the United Methodist Church in Warrenton, Oregon in 1948 and they started their family five years later: Marilyn (Frank, sons Chris and Cam), Ron (Ann, sons Derek and Curtis and daughter Erin), Ken (son Matthew), Jane (Tom, daughters Kelsie and Rachel) and Linda (son Brad and daughter Jessica). They were also blessed with three great grandchildren, Mason, Lawson and Asa. Jan and Curt had shared 66 years together at the time of his passing in 2014.
Jan was at her happiest at family gatherings, large and small. She also enjoyed crocheting, clamming, entertaining, gardening, and all manner of card games. Woe to those grandkids who thought she would be an easy mark in a game of SkipBo, which became a classic Grandma Jan life-lesson on making assumptions.
Jan was a remarkable woman, mother, grandmother and friend. She possessed the perfect combination of grit, grace, hard work, kindness, a sharp wit and excellent sense of humor. With five children, there were countless sports practices, games, dance performances and band concerts. She was always there. When friends and neighbors experienced some kind of troubling event, she was at their front door with a meal, a kind word and a hug. If there were suddenly extra folks around at meal time, food would appear with no indication that she hadn't been expecting guests all along. Jan was diligent about keeping in touch with friends and family. Her address book was a mysterious mess to the rest of us, but she used it well and often. She offered the best life advice, always had great perspective and had the patience of a saint. We are honored to have been loved and guided by her.
While her absence leaves a huge void in our family, her unconditional love and inspiration will be with us forever.
