DeLores NG Atkins
January 8, 1931 – Sept 20, 2022.
It is with heavy hearts; we announce the death of Delores NG Atkins.
Laid to rest with her first husband, Walt, (Red) who passed away in 1981.
Born DeLores NG Ritland on January 8, 1931, in Holden, Alberta to Lewis and Nina Ritland. She passed away peacefully in Newberg, Oregon on Sept 20, 2022, at the age of 91.
In her youth she worked on the family farm and at the family bowling alley/cafe.
She often told stories of the barn dances on the family farm where her and her siblings would play instruments to provide the music.
After graduating from Holden HS, she went on to the University of Calgary for dressmaking and clothing design.
She then moved on to the United States where she started her own dressmaking business.
Through out life she was both self-employed and worked for others. During her career she had experience at all levels of factory production from entry level to production supervisor. She was proud of her accomplishments as a businesswoman, and her many years of sales of art and health products.
She was a strong independent caring woman who loved cooking, canning, sewing, music, and many forms of art including oil painting and leatherworking. During her first marriage she made most of her own clothes as well as her husband's, and son’s. Her musical interests included playing the accordion and piano. She enjoyed traveling and socializing with many groups such as businesswomen’s groups and organizations like the Elks and American legion auxiliary.
Of all the things in her life, family was to her the most important. She often spoke in the highest regards of her family growing up in Canada. Though she only had one child of her own. She considered all her step kids and step grand kids as her own.
DeLores is survived by her son Deryk Peters and his children; Her sister Maxine and her children and grandchildren, Walt’s children, Debbie Huggins, Radford Peters, and Cynthia DeViteo; many grandchildren; her second husband Billy Atkins’s children and grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her parents, Lewis and Nina Ritland; her first husband, Walter Willis Peters, second husband Billy Atkins and her siblings Raymond, Lawrence, and Bertha.
She will be greatly missed and will remain forever in our hearts.
