Obituary of Pauline Rilatt
Pauline Rilatt, age 81, passed away peacefully on August 26, 2022. Pauline was born on February 25, 1941 to her mother, Mary Hoodless and Father, Harry Hoodless. Her father, unfortunately, passed away early in her life, so Pauline and her sister Hilary were raised by their mother alone.
Pauline is survived by her sister: Hilary Wilkin (Peter), her children: Bernadette Rilatt-Crooks (John), James Rilatt Jr (Debbie), Paul Rilatt, and Deacon John Rilatt (Christina), her grandchildren: Sarah Deflaminis (AJ), Mary Bailey (Branden), Andrew Rilatt, Jodee Rilatt, Colleen Rilatt, and Nicholas Rilatt and her great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father: Harry Hoodless, mother: Mary Joplin, and her husband: James B. Rilatt.
Pauline was a courageous and strong woman who took chances and trusted her intuition. At 18, she met her loving husband, James Bernard Rilatt, and after a year of courtship overseas, she took a leap of faith for the love of her life. At 19 years of age, Pauline said goodbye to her family and friends. She left everything she knew behind and made the move to America to be with Bernard and start a new life. Pauline welcomed 4 beautiful children into the world with her husband.
Pauline loved celebrations. She planned many fun parties and adventures for her children, and later, her grandchildren. Beach trips, holiday celebrations, barb-b-ques and for many years…fireworks with some good Irish coffees! (for the grown-ups)
Pauline was an active and caring woman who spent most of her life caring for others. If you had no one, she was in your corner and she would stand by you. Pauline even nursed many of her closest friends through their final stages in life, on occasions moving her and Bernard out of their own bedroom for a friend to have her 24-hour care in their last days.
Pauline spent her final years struggling with her health but making the best of her days sitting on her porch greeting neighbors, beach trips to watch families enjoying the ocean and family gatherings in her home. She will be deeply missed by family and friends.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held on September 17, 2022, at 10:00 am preceded by the recitation of the Rosary at 9:30 am.
Location: Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, 25 N. Rosa Parks Way, Portland, OR 97217.
Reception to follow in the church’s Clare Hall (small hall).
