Obituary of Mary Lou Carter

Mary Lou Carter (92) of Monmouth, Oregon went home to be with the Lord on July 21, 2022. She was born on October 4, 1929, in Seminole, Oklahoma. On December 22, 1948, she married the love of her life, George Paul Carter in Willamina, Oregon. Mary Lou was an Air Force wife for 20 years before she and George returned home to Oregon. Mary Lou became an advocate for people with disabilities and served faithfully as a Sunday School teacher and caregiver. She loved riding motorcycles with George and was an avid gardener who loved working with her roses. Mary Lou spent many years researching her family genealogy.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Chocktaw John and Sadie A. Ward; loving husband of 67 years, George Carter; infant son, Michael P. Carter; son, John Wesley Carter; son-in-law, John Hubbard; brothers, Hamp Ward, Henry Ward, JL Ward, James Ward; and sister, Nancy May Ward. She is survived by daughter Paula (Henry) Buckland of Christiansburg, VA; son George Paul (Lanita) Carter of Independence; daughter Mary T. Hubbard; brother Robert Ward; sisters Verdie Wilson, Margaret Taylor, Vivian McKinnis; 12 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-child.

The family would like to thank Stacie Carter and Sean Murphy, who faithfully cared for her grandmother, Mary Lou for the last 6 years, and express their appreciation for Michelle with Serenity Hospice.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 23 at 2:00 pm with visitation at 1:00 pm at Cornerstone Church of God in Independence. Arrangements made by Crown Memorial Center, Cremation & Burial. Burial will be held the week of July 25 at the Willamette National Cemetery.
