Chuckie, who was named after his grandmother Charles, was born in Fort Devens, MA, the child of a career Army veteran James A Smith Sr. Deceased and Gloria Boulden Smith from Clarksdale, MS. He graduated from Fort Campbell High School, in Fort Campbell, Kentucky in 1980. He attended Devry Institute in Atlanta, GA. He moved to Portland, OR in 1996, from Germany. He was an excellent athlete, was brilliant, loved to read and traveled the world. He leaves to mourn his son Charles A. Smith Jr and grandson Charles A. Smith III. His mother, three sisters, four brothers, several nieces, nephews and friends. A virtual memorial will be planned for him in the coming weeks by his sister
