Obituary of Matthew Thomas Joye
On May 16, we awoke to a world with one less Joye in it when our sweet Matthew left us for good.
Born August 12, 1981, to Susan and Michael Joye of Salem, Oregon, Matt Joye’s infectious smile, quick wit, and tender heart touched so many throughout his short life.
The youngest of four, Matt graduated from McNary in 1999 and worked alongside his father, renovating homes throughout the Salem area for over two decades. When he wasn’t working, Matt was out fishing, enjoying the southern Oregon coast with his high-school sweetheart, Dawn Landis, or helping out family and friends at the drop of a dime.
He loved animals (specifically his now deceased dog Daisy and cats, Buddy and Nash), long drives around Oregon and beyond, remodeling houses, and living life to the fullest.
Matt leaves behind his parents, Susan and Michael Joye, Dawn, his partner of 20+ years, his sisters, Melissa, Jessica, and Rebecca, aunt Kathi and uncle Oliver, cousin Jason, uncle Wade, uncle Gary, aunt Debbie and DeeDee, plus a niece, nephew, and countless cousins and friends.
Great people come and go. But great hearts like Matt are a rare phenomenon. Despite the sorrow of his untimely departure, his family and friends feel so lucky to have had the joy of being in his orbit, the beautiful, sweet boy with the biggest heart, for the time we had. He will be forever missed.
A small private reception will be held at his parent’s home on June 4 @ 1:00 PM. RSVP at 503-602-8934.
