Rick was born November 18, 1960 in Dallas, Oregon. He attended school in Willamina where he excelled in all sports he participated in – football, basketball, and baseball. He started working for Boise Cascade when he was 18 years old and had a 37-year career with them before becoming disabled.
Rick started hunting and fishing with his dad at a young age. His passion was fishing. He spent many hours on the Upper Nestucca enjoying fishing time with family and friends. In more recent years he enjoyed taking his boat crabbing and shad fishing. He taught two generations of young people to fish and hunt. At home, Rick enjoyed wood working and gardening. He lovingly tended the Bergan family homestead, ensuring future generations would have a place to call home.
More than anything, Rick loved his family. He was dedicated to teaching his children, grandchildren, and those around him the meaning of hard work and responsibility. His sense of humor was well known and much appreciated. He was a great teller of stories, and his family never tired of listening to them.
In more recent years Rick had health struggles. He received a kidney transplant in 2018 after years of diabetes took its toll. Rick was grateful to be off dialysis, and for his new kidney. He went into cardiac arrest on April 29, 2022 and spent 3 days on life support before passing on May 1, 2022. He was surrounded by his wife and children at the time of passing. His family dearly loved him and he loved them. He never tired of telling how much he loved them.
Services were held for Rick on May 13th at Good Shepard Church and the Monroe Event Center in Sheridan, Oregon. Remembrances can be made in his name to the American Diabetes Association.
