Obituary of Carol Joyce Bird
Carol passed away peacefully with her two daughters by her side on April 8th.
Born in McMinnville, OR to Elton and Agnes Thorn, Carol grew up in Salem as one of four children. She attended South Salem High School and was part of the graduating class of 1958. Carol moved to Santa Barbara, CA in 1959 with her two best friends, Sonja Pranger and Marilyn Mueller. This is where she met her husband, Ron Ingalls. They married in Salem in 1960 and returned to Santa Barbara where they had two daughters, Dana and Michelle. Eventually, Carol and her family moved back to Salem. She worked for the Secretary of State Administrative Rules division for many years until she retired.
Carol enjoyed traveling worldwide and spending time with her family and friends. She loved her family deeply and loved spending time with all her grandchildren. Carol had an infectious smile that would light up the room. Her family and friends would describe her as a caring, supportive, and selfless individual. She went on yearly family vacations to Cabo San Lucas and loved having mini-vacations at the beach. Carol was always up for an adventure, whether zip-lining or deep-sea fishing. Her family will deeply miss her adventurous and fun spirit.
She is preceded in death by her father Elton and her mother Agnes.
She is survived by her daughters Dana (Ted) Hersh and Michelle (Don) Johnson. Granddaughters Danielle (Zach) Grayum, April Hersh, and Hannah Hersh. Grandsons Jason Johnson, Lance Johnson, and George Hersh. Great-grandchildren Mia Grayum, Ava Grayum, Scarlett Johnson, and Jett Johnson. Siblings Marian Lewis, Janet Morris, and Gary Thorn.
Please join us for a celebration of Carol’s life on April 30th at 1 pm. It will be held at Rudy’s Banquet Hall, 350 Chemeketa St. NE Salem, OR 97301.
