Obituary of Lola Jean Beaulieu

Born 9/22/32 in St. George, Utah as Lola Jean Abbott to Erma and Adelman Abbott. She died April 1, 2022 in Vancouver, Washington.

She married Thurman Beaulieu on June 10, 1951. They built their home in Tigard, Oregon from the ground up. When they moved into their home you could go from room to room without going through a door. They worked on it for many years and the result was a beautiful home.

Lola used to do hair for family and friends and decided to make it a career. She was a hairdresser for many years and has been known to travel with her haircutting gear. She cut many heads of hair on vacations and made many friends. She retired from working in salons to only doing hair at home (perms, cuts and color) for family and friends. Her haircutting skills transitioned into pruning flowers and bushes in her garden.

Lola was a member of the LDS Church and was a member of the Relief Society for many years.

She was an avid crocheter, quilter, gardener, painter, dancer, fisherwoman and she loved to cook. She liked to read, go camping with family and friends which included reunions and other gatherings. She also liked to play cards such as Skip Bo, Kings Corner and Pinochle.

Traveling and having adventures was something she liked to do. A trip of a lifetime for her was a trip to England and Germany. But she also went to Mexico and Canada and traveled to Hawaii, Alaska and many western states.

Lola was the oldest of 6 kids of which three have predeceased her; Leonard Abbott, Rea Judkins, Donald Abbott. She is survived by her sisters Dorothy Jacobs and Erma Lynn Mattwaoshe. She has 19 nieces and nephews, and too many cousins to list. In fact, we needed a cruise ship for a family reunion.

Lola is survived by her children, Anita True and Todd Beaulieu (Laurie), grandchildren Dawn Hunt (Dave), Taunya True (Todd Laune) and Myna Clark and greatgrandchildren, Ashlee Russell (Steve), Cole Hunt, Blake Hunt, Brodie Alexander, Cooper Clark and Lilliana Clark.

She was often described as a go getter and when she decided to do something, it was best to get out of her way so she could get it done. She had a mean sense of humor and was always good for a joke. She was always willing to share her knowledge and wisdom when asked. She was always willing to help whether it was teaching a granddaughter how to make a bed with sharp corners or raking the leaves in someone’s yard.

Although the following poem was written at the time of Thurman’s passing, it still is fitting for today.

When you think of me,

Do not remember the way I passed on.

Remember I don’t hurt, I’m not in pain

And my fear is gone.

I now join my mother, father, husband, sister and brothers

Who have been waiting.

As all of you walk through life,

I will be smiling upon you;

Never think that you are alone.

And when your time has come to pass,

My hand will be extended to lead you on the journey home.

Graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on April 8, 2022 at Crescent Grove Cemetery located at 9925 SW Greenburg Road in Tigard, Oregon. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer’s Association would be appreciated.
