Obituary of Doris Driver
Doris Jean (Swanda) Driver
7/1/1947 to 3/20/2022
Doris Jean Driver, beloved sister, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully in the presence of Jesus on a quiet Sunday afternoon surrounded by family after a long and courageous battle with multiple cancers. She was 74 years old. Doris was born in Portland, Oregon to Edwin and Adelaide Swanda, and was the first of their four children. Doris grew up in the St. Johns neighborhood of Portland with her siblings Mary, Chuck, and Pam.
She graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1965, remaining in the area until moving to Southern Idaho in the summer of 1976 where she raised her family on a 5-acre farm. Doris eventually returned to the Willamette Valley, making her home in Tangent, Oregon. She attended Tangent Community Church and served as Linn County's Chief Deputy Treasurer. Doris was a hard worker and found joy in serving others. This was reflected in her many hobbies: scrapbooking, sewing, crocheting, and baking. She delighted in handcrafting gifts for family and friends. Doris would bake many dozens of cookies at Christmas and share them with others.
Doris also loved the outdoors. Oregon's lakes, rivers, and forests were a delight to her. She enjoyed hiking, camping, fishing, and cross-country skiing. But, of all the places she loved to visit, Doris adored Oregon's coast the best. Whether she was browsing the shops, wandering the beach, or exploring local eateries, it was her favorite place to be.
She was preceded in death by her parents and is survived by her siblings, Mary Chapman, Charles Swanda, and Pamela Loeb, and her children, Rick, Rob, Ken, Karen, TJ, and Jon along with nineteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
