Obituary of Doris Annette Metcalf Thurman

Doris Annette Metcalf was born March 16, 1933 in Eureka, California.  She was the youngest of seven children born to Edward and Isabella Metcalf.  Doris married Thomas Thurman June 10, 1950 and was married for 63 years.  They had a son, Michael, born in 1951 in Eureka and a daughter, Lanette, born in 1953 in Redding, where they had moved in 1952.

 

They lived in Redding where Doris was a stay at home mother and later worked as the church secretary.  After moving to Pinecrest Youth Camp in the Sierra Mountains near Lake Tahoe in 1969, Doris managed and ran the camp store during the summer months.  In 1975 they moved to  West Pittsburgh, CA to work at the Northern California SDA conference office where they both worked, Doris as a secretary.  In 1977 they moved to Gladstone, Oregon to be near their daughter and to work at the Oregon SDA conference where Doris worked as a secretary until she retired in 2008.  A couple years after moving to Oregon they bought a house in Oregon City and lived there until passing. Doris was a devoted grandmother to Rian, Landon and Mickey. 

 

Doris loved children and worked in her church’s kindergarten division for 40 years. After retirement she volunteered at the Oregon City Library until 2017. 

 

Doris is survived by her son Michael, daughter Lanette, grandsons Rian, Mickey and Landon, and great grandchildren Eva, Logan, Max and Lacey.

 

There will be no memorial service.
