Obituary of Janet Ellen Duke
Friends of Janet Duke are mourning her loss.
Janet Ellen Brownell was born on September 16, 1932, in Cambridge, New York: and passed away in Keizer, Oregon on February 10, 2022. She was the only child of Harold and Alfreda Brownell of Hyde Park, NY.
Janet grew up in Hyde Park, NY, and graduated from Krissler Business Institute in Poughkeepsie, NY in 1951. IBM in Poughkeepsie, NY soon employed her. Where she worked in the operations unit and served as the lead assistant for Bob Evans, the production manager. Janet loved working for IBM and when the opportunity arrived, she moved with the Company and Mr. Evans to Oakland, CA, and later to the San Jose, California area. In the 1970s, she attended West Valley College in Santa Clara, California, and studied psychology. While in college, she met Robert Douglas Duke, a clinical psychology teacher at West Valley College. Robert and Janet married on January 22, 1982, in Nevada and continued to live in the San Jose area. In 1985, they moved to Salem, Oregon after Robert's retirement. Robert: passed away in 1986. Janet continued to live in Salem.
She joined a bicycle club in Salem and rode with the team on various marathons and bicycle events in Marion County. Janet did much volunteer work: in Salem. She served as a front desk receptionist at the Salem Hospital for several years and worked in the Salem Hospital Auxiliary center. She served as a volunteer for the Marion County District Attorney's Office.
When she became ill in November 2019, she moved to the Avamere Care Rehabilitation Center in Keizer, Oregon. Janet had many friends who will miss her. She is survived by, her cousin Ralph B McClure and children of Connersville, Indiana, and by friends in Salem, Portland, and Corvallis, Oregon.
Funeral arrangements were by Crown Memorial Funeral Home in Salem.
