Obituary of George Kuntz
George Frank Kuntz, 79, passed away on January 21, 2022, in Portland, Oregon after a prolonged illness. George was born on September 14, 1942, in Odessa, North Dakota, to Frank and Audenia “Ida” Kuntz, who moved their family to Mandan, North Dakota, where George was raised with his siblings and called home.
He served in the Airborne division of the U.S. Army for eight years before opening an upholstery business in Antioch, California with his brother, Frank. George later moved to Oroville where he ran an upholstery shop. He returned to North Dakota in the early 80’s, but later decided to return to California where he resided until 2017 and made the decision to move to Oregon to be near his sister, Virginia Klaich.
George loved drawing, painting, carving, and making jewelry. Shortly before George’s death, his niece, Deanna Culley, asked him why he didn’t draw professionally and make it a career. George loved art and drawing so much that he didn’t want to make money from something he was so passionate about and instead he wanted to teach people the beauty of art. That alone was payment enough.
He is survived by his children, Tiffany (Josh) Hunt, Paul Kuntz, Troy (Jill) Kuntz, Eric (Wendy) Kuntz, and Kellie (Joseph) Cavallaro; his stepsons, Scott Besnyi and Kevin Besnyi; his sisters, Virginia Klaich and Lorraine Kuntz-Dexter; his brothers, Frank (Sharon) Kuntz and Christian (Susan) Kuntz; 14 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews whom he adored very much, including Deanna Culley and Mike Kuntz. He is also survived by two former wives, Lynda Kuntz and Pam Castellanos.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Ida Kuntz; his brothers, Albert, John, Adam, and John Kuntz; his sister, Betty Kopp, and his sons, Kevin and Shawn Kuntz.
Service information will be provided at a future date.
