Obituary of Sylvia Annabelle Zitek
Sylvia Annabelle Purviance Zitek was born on April 27, 1946 in Billings, Montana to Roscoe and Bertha Mae Purviance.
She grew up and spent her life in the Pacific Northwest and passed away in Portland, Oregon on January 15, 2022.
Her Seventh-Day Adventist faith was a core part of her life and she attended schools and church based on this faith throughout her life.
Sylvia married the love of her life, Frank Zitek when she was just 21 years old and they were married for 32 years until his death in 2001.
Family and faith were at the core of Sylvia's life, she started a business with her two sons, Dwight and Kyle when they were quite young and she put her many talents to use at her church, playing the piano, making quilts and interpreting church services for those who were unable to hear. She and her husband built and ran an adult foster care home in New Plymouth, Idaho in the 1990s.
Sylvia was the author of two books, Mary's Story about the mother of Jesus, and Except As We Forget, about the history of Oregon Adventist Campmeeting. She had a wide variety of interests and threw herself into her projects whole-heartedly.
Sylvia spent the last 6 years of her life in the Portland, Oregon area and due to her declining health she was cared for at a facility (Marquis Mt Tabor) where she passed away peacefully, surrounded by loving family.
Sylvia is survived by her brother Alvin, sons Dwight and Kyle (Nicole), her step-mother, Jeanette, step-sister Charlotte, step-brother Ralf and many other loved ones who love and miss her. She lived a full and happy life and was one of the most loving, kind persons you would ever hope to meet.
