Obituary of Robert Dale Bloodgood Jr
Robert (Bob) Dale Bloodgood Jr. was born in Portland, Oregon on December 5th, 1952 to Robert Dale Bloodgood Sr. and Vivian Darlene Haskins. Bob passed away January 14th, 2022 in Clackamas, Oregon. He is predeceased by both parents, his older brother Edwin Bloodgood, and his younger brother Richard Bloodgood.
Bob was the second oldest of 9 siblings; Edwin Bloodgood, Robert (Bob) Dale Bloodgood Jr, Lawrence Bloodgood, Terry (Bloodgood) Griffin, Richard Bloodgood, Joe Bloodgood, Sherry Bloodgood, Charles Bloodgood, and Nick Bloodgood.
Bob lived most of his life in Portland during a time when it was still safe for him and his siblings to ride their bikes all day, packed lunch in hand, returning home for dinner only when the streetlights came on. He shared a close bond with his siblings, making them a priority his entire life.
He was accepted into the prestigious Phillips Academy in Andover Massachusetts at the age of 14. He was given a four year, full ride scholarship after ranking in the top one percent on an Intermediate Schools Talent Search Program Exam. He also attended summer school at Dartmouth College in New Hampshire where he learned computer programming from the developers of BASIC, a popular language for early personal computers.
He left Phillips Academy only a year after he enrolled so he could return home to help his family through difficult times. Being so far from home at such a young age took a toll on Bob and he felt his place was with his family. Bob could never say no to family and friends in need and spent much of his adult life helping others, even when it was difficult.
In January of 1972, Bob married his high school sweetheart, Jacqueline Ann (Reeves) Bloodgood. Married for 50 years, he spent the rest of his life with her. They had three children: Robert Dale Bloodgood III, Bonnie (Bloodgood) Robb and husband Mark Robb, and Matthew Bloodgood and wife Juli Bloodgood. Bob and Jackie currently have 8 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
Bob continued to be fascinated by computers and other electronics throughout his life. He earned his certification as an electronic technician in 1976 and his license as a Federal Communication Commission First Class Radiotelephone Operator with a ship radar endorsement in 1979. For over 50 years he repaired all types of electronics equipment, designed circuits, and even taught electronics labs at PCC.
His love for music and ability to perform and write music is carried on in his children and grandchildren. Bob spent some time in his youth playing the keyboard in a rock band, but ultimately gave that up because of the lifestyle that accompanied the industry.
He also owned several motorcycles over the years which were a source of great joy. He loved taking his wife and children on adventures through winding backroads and around the city.
Consistent with his thirst for knowledge, Bob loved studying about and talking about the Lord. He learned Greek to better understand the original language of the New Testament and loved to debate the subtle nuances and meanings of words and biblical ideas. He could often be found in earnest prayer, knowing that one day he would go home to be with the Lord. He passed on his love of learning and his love of God to his children and grandchildren. He considered this his greatest blessing and achievement.
