Obituary of Justina Hurley
Justina Mae (Jelineo) Hurley died peacefully in Tualatin, Oregon on December 24, 2022. Born August 29, 1944, in Portland, OR, Tina (as most knew her by) attended St. Ignatius from K-8th grade, where she met a group of friends she remained friends with until her death. She graduated from St. Mary’s Academy (Portland, OR) as Senior Class President, and studied at Portland State University (OR). She became the head of the computer department for Southern Oregon Bank, before she left the industry to spend more time with her children. She worked at Grants Pass High School for a period of time, after the kids were all in school. And then she retired as the Office Manager for St. Anne’s Catholic Church (Grants Pass, OR). She and her husband (Philip Hurley) retired in Waldport, OR, and quickly established themselves in the realm of volunteering. If she wasn’t taking an art or cooking class at the local community college, she was volunteering her time at local cat shelters, “Whale Watching Spoken Here” events, or the Oregon Coast Aquarium in Newport, OR (where she served for over eleven years!).
Tina was infamously known to make friends with pretty much everyone she met, and her endearing nature let her care for them all. She loved all of God’s creatures—great and small.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Nicholas and Kathryn Jelineo, and her husband of over 56 years, Philip Hurley. She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, John and Sue Jelineo; her youngest brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Marion Jelineo; and her children (The Three N’s) in order of birth: Noelle, Nicholas, & Noah Hurley; her daughter-in-law, Holly Hurley; and her beloved grandchildren, Eloise Mae & Hazel Jo.

She will be buried at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Portland, OR, next to her soulmate. May she rest in peace.
