Bruce Taylor Snyder
July 21, 1947 to November 29, 2021
Bruce was born in York, Pennsylvania, the son of the late Dean and Doris Snyder. After graduating from Central High School in York in 1965, he attended Millersville University in Millersville, PA earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Secondary Education in 1969. Bruce was an Eagle Scout, wrestled for both his high school and college teams, and played the marimba and other percussion instruments, performing with Tony Grant's Stars of Tomorrow on Steele Pier in Atlantic City as well as on the steps of the U.S. Capitol.
In 1969, Bruce and Deanna married and moved to Maryland. While teaching, Bruce received a Master's Degree in Education from the University of Maryland in 1975. Bruce was a science teacher with Montgomery County Public Schools in Maryland for 35 years, a professor at Johns Hopkins University Graduate School of Education for 14 years, and owner/operator of Snyder's Pest Control for 45 years.
During his time with MCPS, Mr. Snyder was involved in a wide variety of activities – student government, the Activity Club where he supervised ski and adventure park trips, and coached the B-CC HS Wrestling Team and girl's Softball Team. Mr. Snyder made science fun, both in the classroom and with special field trips like rafting down the PA Grand Canyon, outdoor education weeks at Summit Lake near Camp David, and Chesapeake Bay Foundation trips to Smith Island.
One of the highlights of Bruce's teaching career was when he was selected for an Argentina/USA Fulbright Exchange. During the summer of 2003, Bruce taught elementary through university students in Cordoba, Argentina.
With retirement came the move to Newberg, Oregon in 2016 to be near the grandkids. Bruce liked playing softball, basketball, and volleyball. He loved trying new adventures like parasailing, wind surfing, bungee jumping, and performing as Elvis on stage in Vegas. He also enjoyed bow hunting, dancing, and eating strange foods like jellyfish, abalone, and crickets.
Bruce is survived by his wife Deanna, daughter Kristie Neumayer, son-in-law Adam, and grandchildren Natalie and Michael; also sister Joyce Corbett, husband Jim and their family and half-brother Larry Snyder and wife Carol.
