Obituary of Bejaija Jon Telisman
Bejaija Jon ( B.J.) Telisman
January 7, 1969-September 1, 2021
Bejaija passed away suddenly from an internal hemorrhage at his residence southeast Portland. Born to George and Noreen (Fetherson) Telisman in the Chicago, Illinois, area, he moved with his family to Portland in 1970. He attended North Clackamas schools, graduating from Rex Putnam High School in 1987 where earned numerous academic awards, soccer awards, and lettered in soccer.
He pursued a career in commercial art studying at Portland Community College and Oregon State University. He worked in the printing industry loving color and design.
B.J. started downhill skiing and camping with his family before he was school age, and continued these through adulthood. In high school he began break dancing, soon earning the nickname “Dr. Ice”. Jamming with friends on his guitar, and spending hours creating original art work carving emu, duck eggs, doing glass etching, and creating wire sculptures were constant hobbies. Above all, he loved and found peace in nature- exploring the logging roads on Mt. Hood to find special secluded camping spots with rippling streams and wide vistas. Travel was another interest- living 6 months in Turkey, trekking in Nepal, skiing in Austria were some of his most memorable trips.
He was preceded in death by his father, George Telisman, and his aunt Marge Fetherson of Tallmadge, Ohio. He leaves his mother Noreen Telisman of Portland, and an aunt, Charlene Telisman Owens, of Alabama, along with several cousins.
A celebration of life will be held the summer of 2022. A notice will be printed in the Oregonian and be on Facebook.
Remembrances may be made to Bark Trail Keepers of Mt. Hood National Forest: justice@bark-out.org
