Obituary of Elsie Louise Bailey (Guignard)
It is with great sadness that the family of Elsie Louise Bailey (Guignard) announces her passing with loved ones by her side on June 15, 2021, at the age of 84.
She was born in the early summer of 1937, to John W. Guignard and Edith L. Guignard-LaRue in Hood River, Oregon. She grew up in Hood River with her two siblings, and later settled with her family in Scappoose, Oregon.
Elsie took pride in her work at both Carole’s Place and Wayside Restaurant. She will be remembered by her customers for not only her warm and welcoming smile and demeanor, but for the detailed and personal service she extended consistently to everyone. All who were fortunate to meet her were blessed by her caring and generous heart.
Elsie was devoted to her family, whom she inspired daily by her love, strength, and character. She will be greatly missed by her surviving 8 children, 19 grandchildren, and 27 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, William A. Bailey, her parents, and many relatives and friends.
Elsie faced life’s challenges with courage and grace. A life lived in such a beautiful way deserves to be beautifully remembered. To honor the extraordinary woman she was, her family is planning a special event that will be held privately at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, it was Elsie’s wish that donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (https://www.stjude.org) or to the Portland Union Gospel Mission (https://ugmportland.org).
