Obituary of Hylda Jean Nations

Hylda Jean Nations, 73, of Portland, passed away peacefully on June 8, 2021.

Jean (G.G. to friends and family), born on September 5, 1947 to Herman Oliver and Hylda Tooley (nee Harlin) in Grants Pass, Oregon, immediately brought joy and laughter into the world. Jean went on to graduate from Laurelwood Academy in 1966. After graduating from high school, Jean went on to pursue a degree in nursing first at Walla Walla College and finishing at Southern Oregon University. Jean fell in love with nursing, which kicked off a 30 year stint in the field of labor and delivery.

In 1968, she married Michael Dwayne Nations and together they went on to have two children, Timothy Scott and Julie Beth. Jean was a fiercely dedicated mom to both of her children. Family came first and was above all else to Jean, a value she instilled in all those around her. She was one of the strongest women to ever walk this earth and our family was blessed to have her as the head of the family. The hole left by her absence is impossible to fill.

Whenever Jean found something that interested her she pursued it strongly and with passion.  She was never only “half-in” and always wanted to be where the action was, no matter where or what time of day.   Throughout her life Jean developed and maintained friendships with people from all backgrounds and walks of life.

Jean’s best friend was her sister, Boni. They were always by each other’s side, whether as business partners or gallivanting through Europe. They were lifelong entrepreneurs together owning several businesses.

Jean was predeceased by her parents, Herman Oliver and Hylda Harlin Tooley, her brother David Tooley, her brother-in-law, Geoffery Courtright and granddaughter, Christina Nations.

She is survived by her sister, Bonita Courtright, her children, Timothy (Miechelle) Nations and Julie Nations, her grandchildren, Felicia, Joshua, Keali’ilokomaika’i, Kekoa, Kanani and Malia, her great grandchildren, Tyler, Tamia, Makayla and Jamie, her sister-in-law Sherrill Tooley Lupino and a long list of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends

.

There will be a celebration of Jean’s life, July 17, 2021 in Longview, WA.
