Obituary of Gilbert L. Lopez
Major Gilbert Lawrence Lopez, 98, was born in El Paso, Texas, and passed away on June 5th, 2021 in Corvallis, Oregon. Major Gilbert was a beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, and more to many.
Major Gilbert had a decorated career in the Air Force. He served in four wars as a radar navigator for the B-52 bomber. He retired after 22 years of service as a Major. After his military career, he went to college and earned teaching credentials, and taught Algebra through Calculus for 17 years.
Gilbert had a strong faith in God. He was very devoted l to God, his church, and his family. He valued loyalty and was a man of integrity. He loved his family very much. He was very skilled at working with his hands. He enjoyed woodworking and rebuilding cars. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and especially golfing.
Major Gilbert Lopez is survived by his loving wife, Retha Leigh Lopez, his daughter, Teresa Smathers, and his brother, Dr. Richard Lopez. Additionally, Major Lopez is survived by multiple grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A Memorial service will be held June 17, 2021, at 6 pm at New Hope Center located at 6225 SW Philomath Blvd, Corvallis OR.
