Obituary of Joseph Bernard Dieringer

Joseph Bernard Dieringer; April 27, 1931- May 16, 2021, favorably known as "Bernie." Born in Portland, Oregon, at home, weighing over 13lbs. This past April, Bernie celebrated his 90th birthday, laughing all month he “couldn’t believe he would be 90!”

Bernie was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle and friend to many. In his spare time, Bernie enjoyed woodworking and loved to create model train railroad systems. He was active in the PTA and hosted many New Years Eve Parties at his home. He was a devout Catholic and member of the St. John's Catholic Church in Milwaukie. Bernie was also a lifetime member of the Milwaukie Elks Lodge 2032 and starting in 1979 rose to Esquire then elected Exalted Ruler in 1984. He was a very hard worker, loved to play cards, and always brought laughter wherever he went. He loved cruising the world with his wife Ruth, although he had a fear of water. If you ever visited Bernie at home, you could count on a stash of peanut M and M’s and Saturday night Burgers. In retirement, Bernie learned a new skill as Ruth's seam ripper, aka reverse sewist, whilst she was a popular garment maker. Bernie served in the US Air-Force, worked at the “Dieringer's" Store which became the “Disco Mart” and eventually went on to help protect his clients through insurance sales.

Bernie is survived by his three Children: Lynne Dieringer, Paul Dieringer and his wife Colette, Phil Dieringer and his wife Mary; among their children, grandchildren, and the community of Milwaukie. He was preceded in death by his parents Frank and Catherine Dieringer, his wife of 58 years, Ruth Dieringer and all of his 10 siblings (Bernie was the second youngest).

His place of Entombment is the Willamette National Cemetery. The cremation services were performed by Crown Memorial Center in Milwaukie. In lieu of flowers, Bernie would appreciate any donations be sent to the St. John’s Catholic Church in Milwaukie, OR.

A celebration of life pot-luck will be held at Mark Dieringer’s home on July 24th, 2021. Address: 31727 S Grimm Road Molalla,  Oregon 97038. Time: 1- 5pm. Please bring a chair if desired.
