Mark and I had so many great outdoor adventures together - this photo was taken at Fish Lake at the headwaters of Squirrel Creek, near Olallie, spring of 2019, before the big forest fires. The day was magical - after crashing through brush and sliding down hills with the canoe, we enjoyed the best trout fishing of our lives... I caught and released more than 2 dozen cutthroat, brown, and rainbow trout - and Mark had much better luck from the front of the canoe... The trout all seemed to know we had no frying pan, and no intention of keeping any of them... I thank them for helping make such great memories with such a dear friend.

Every year I would ask Mark if it was okay to pick from your prolific apple tree. Each year he said he was happy to share. I may have owed him an apple pie. I look forward to continuing to pick those apples, now in remembrance of the kindest of Mark's generosity.
Joyce, Dana and Hanna, we are sorry for the loss of your father and husband. Having lost Jeff Thomas 19 years ago, the Thomas children and I grieve with you. The absence of his presence on Wolsborn Ave will be felt.
Much love, Anna Thomas Briggs

I worked with Mark in Aloha and one thing I will never forget, besides his smile and kindness, was his office!! I honestly had never seen so many boats of wafers and piles and piles of papers in one cube. What always cracked me up was that you never could see the top of his desk, but his keyboard was always safely balanced on top of piles of paperwork. He was the absent minded professor (this is a HUGE complement in my book) and he always had such a kind heart and smile. My sincere condolences to Joyce, Dana and Hanna. He will truly be missed.....Kathy (Green) Cina

I was a friend/roommate of Mark’s at the University of Colorado in the 1970s. I was proud to be part of Mark’s “chosen family.” There were lot of crazy things we did as undergraduates, including hiring an undergraduate “hitman” to throw a pie in the face of one of our professors and the backpacking trips to the Colorado mountains. After I finished grad school, Mark made a wooden desk sign reading “Dr. Doug” that sits on my desk at the university to this day. I think of him very often, especially when I log a bike ride to a computer spreadsheet. In a self deprecating way, he used to laugh about his obsessive use of spreadsheets, including logging light bulbs ;-). Mark will be missed by many. My condolences to Joyce, Dana, and Hanna.

My first meeting/memory of Mark was his smile when I told him I just started at Intel - he just retired from Intel. :-) He wished me luck. We had just moved to the neighborhood and Mark was always available for a smile, wave and an opinion, when asked. :-) RIP Mark.

I will always think of Mark when I see Red Poppies. I knew him from our neighborhood and the last time we spoke it was about the flowers in the garden.
He will be missed.

Mark was my mentor when I began my career with Intel, and I credit him for teaching me how to be a successful engineer. He was friendly, hard working, full of passion to solve problems and increase yield, and always working on plans for his next experiment! Mark also introduced me to hiking adventures in Oregon, and was always eager to share stories of his own adventures. Mark was far too young, and will be missed by many. Condolences to Joyce and family.

Joyce, Dana and Hanna,
I have thought of you all countless times these last weeks. I didn't know Mark as well as I knew the 3 of you, and after reading this wonderful tribute to him, I feel that was a great oversight. You are all strong women, and I am pretty sure you are surrounded by a large and loving group of strong people who are holding you close...but please know that there is a much larger circle of those of us who are holding you up in our prayers as well.
With my love and prayers,
Karen
