Obituary of Thomas LeRay Rancour
Thomas (Tom) LeRay Rancour, 80, born in Michigan, passed away on May 3rd in the Portland, Oregon area.
Tom Rancour was a beloved son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and a friend to so many. He always had a smile on his face and a funny comment or joke to share.
Upon graduating from Farmington High School, Tom joined the Navy and served with the Marines in the Pacific. When he left the service, he went to Ferris State University where he met Karyl, his wife of almost 55 years. After further studies at Michigan State University and working as a schoolteacher for a short time, he was a State Farm Agent in Rockford, Michigan. For over 30 years, Tom loved being an agent and helping many families and individuals. His customers enjoyed his sense of humor and caring spirit. He also loved spending time with family and friends in the outdoors fishing, hunting, and enjoying nature.
After Tom retired, he and Karyl followed their dreams and moved to Molokai and started a bed and breakfast. They quickly became a favorite home away from home for many.
As a follower of Christ, Tom attended various churches throughout his life and served as an elder at one of them. It gives our family great comfort to know that he knew and loved Jesus.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents and by his brother Oscar Ray. He is survived by his wife Karyl; children Theodore (Ted) Rancour (spouse Melissa) and Nicole (Nicki) Rancour; grandchildren Ari, Annabelle, Josh, Aliya, Ezra, and Luke; great grandchild Reign Rancour Hiro; sisters Nancy, Kathy, and Gisele.
As a cancer survivor, Tom joined the Molokai Cancer Fund with Karyl and made many lasting friendships. When Karyl was diagnosed with cancer, their friends at the Molokai Cancer Fund were there to help with all their needs.
