Obituary of Ronald W. Young

Ronald W. Young “Ron” Born April 12,1951 to John & Evelyn Young in Pawnee City, Ne. the 2nd of 4 boys. He passed away April 24 after a 2-year valiant fight with brain cancer & just a few days after celebrating his 70th birthday. He was raised on the family farm in Summerfield, Ks. & graduated from Summerfield High School in 1969. After graduation, he joined the Navy & served 4 years as a Photographic Intelligence man. After discharge from the service, he married Lucy VanVliet & lived in San Diego,Ca & graduated from West Valley College with an Associates In Art Degree. He then sold real estate until moving to Oregon in 1976. He then worked as mgr for Meldisco, a shoe company leasing space in Kmart. Later he joined the Kmart family & was electronics mgr., Loss Prevention Mgr., & Receiving Mgr. The last 15 years he worked for Bed Bath & Beyond as Receiving Mgr until leaving due to illness. His wife Lucy passed away in 1995. He later married Debbie Grant in 1997 with whom he had been friends & work colleagues at Kmart for many years. They enjoyed golf, traveling, & going to dog shows with their many beloved Dalmatians.Ron was a member of Tualatin Kennel Club, Clackamas Kennel Club, Mt. Hood Dalmatian Club, & Dalmatian Club of America. He was also an AKC judge for Dalmatians & Dobermans. Ron & Debbie moved from Wilsonville to Salem in 2014 to be closer to family and work. Ron is survived by his wife Debbie, Step-daughter Nicole Beattie, granddaughter Elizabeth, brothers Larry (Angel) of Deming, NM, Tom ( Pam) of Seneca, Ks., David ( Barbara) of Carthage, Mo. & numerous nieces & nephews & his beloved Dalmatian Billy. There will be a private ceremony for family & close friends at the Willamette National Cemetery.
