Obituary of Richard Lee Bradley
Richard Lee Bradley:
Dick was born in Chicago in 1937 and raised in the Bonita area of San Diego most of his life by his maternal grandmother. He went home to be with his Lord on April 1, 2021 in Portland, Oregon, passing peacefully in his sleep. Graduated from Chula Vista High School, he worked summers as a lifeguard and also served proudly in the United States Marine Corps. Dick dropped out of the University of California at Davis his senior year to take over the family business due to his father’s death. For the next four decades he was at the helm of “family-owned and operated” West Coast Welders Supply Company in Santa Rosa, California and was an active member of IWDC (Independent Welders Distribution Cooperative).
Dick is survived by his loving wife Candace, children Richard, Eden (Steve) and Lee (Rodney) and their sister Ananda (Michael), sister Vicky (Dan), sister-in-law Bonnie, step-sons Derek and Mark, adopted daughters Denise and Catherine, nephews Matthew, David, Dennis, Tyler, and Robin, nieces Rachel and Kaytee, many wonderful grandchildren and great grandies, a loving extended family, many good long-time friends, and numerous Compassion International children whom he sponsored around the world. He was preceded in death by brother John and grandson Luca (aka Chris).
Throughout his life he was known for being a kind and generous man, with a gift for hospitality and ministering to those isolated and in need — whether in hospitals, nursing homes, or prisons. Always living his beliefs, he remained faithful in his church leadership — serving many, many years as an elder and board member. Dick also faithfully served for several years on the board of directors for Pregnancy Counseling Center and MotorSports Ministries, a group of motorcar racetrack chaplains. He shall be most fondly remembered for always having a good story, anecdote or joke on the ready, and for reciting poetry and songs by heart.
