Harvey Cain

Obituary of Harvey W. Cain

Harvey William Cain, 82 years old, passed away on February 24, 2021. He was surrounded by his beautiful wife, Ruthie, and his loving family at his home in Salem, Oregon. The youngest of twelve children, Harvey was born on July 3, 1938 in Coffeyville, Kansas to Virn and Mary Jane. He moved to Oregon at eighteen years old and began working for a contractor. He took that knowledge and started Harvey Cain Construction. Many of the commercial buildings and apartments in Salem are a product of his workmanship. He was the man who could build or fix anything.

There are not enough words to adequately describe Harvey’s character. He was the rock of the family - steadfast, faithful, wise, honest, and kind. His determination and work ethic were unparalleled. He loved all animals, big and small, and he enjoyed taking care of Cains Place, which was a peaceful sanctuary for all who visited. Harvey was always reliable and deeply devoted to his church family at Way of Life Fellowship. A Kansas farm boy to a self-made craftsman who left a lasting legacy. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.

Harvey is survived by his sister, Hermenia Nichols; wife of 44 years, Ruthie Cain; five children and their spouses, Jim and Cara Cain, Angie and Rick Perin, Troy and Tawni Werline, Tiffany and Dan Delgado, and Rashae and Jeff Taylor. Harvey and Ruthie have 15 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren, in addition to many nieces and nephews.
