Obituary of Heidi Astrid Schmaltz
Heidi Astrid Schmaltz, age 38, passed away on 2/2/21. She was born in Portland on 4/1/82 to Betsy Borchgrevink and David Schmaltz.
At 16, she became an exchange student to Chile where she later returned to University. She loved the Spanish language and travel, most recently having gone to Cuba to visit family.
A graduate of Franklin High School, Heidi was educated at Portland State University, the University of British Columbia and University de Chile at Concepcion. She received her undergraduate degree in Anthropology and her Masters in Spanish Literature. She was a member of the Oregon Society of Translators and Interpreters.
Social Justice was her life's calling. She was of strong will, great intelligence and a loving,giving heart, a writer of poetry.
Heidi is survived by her husband Pablo Morell, her brother Wilder Schmaltz and her parents.
Remembrances may be given in her name to Clackamas Women's Shelter. A scattering of ashes will occur on Still Creek, Rhododendron on a Summer day.
