Obituary of Ochiyo Hasuike

Ochiyo Hasuike, a retired secretary and seamstress, passed away December 27 at age 95.  She was born in Hood River and raised on a small farm there.  Ochiyo helped support the family from an early age and remained an avid do-it-yourselfer throughout her life.  One of her most notable achievements in her early life was attaining the position of first chair violinist in her high school orchestra. Her family was incarcerated, by reason of being Japanese diaspora, during World War II at Heart Mountain and Tule Lake.  She was preceded in death by her husband Toshi and daughter Barbara.  Ochiyo is survived by daughter Susan Kaufmann (Larry), son Michael, granddaughters Christina, Lauren and Danielle, four great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews and their offspring.  In accordance with the wishes of the deceased, there will be no memorial service and the family requests no flowers.
