Obituary of Arnold R Schmidt
Arnold R Schmidt was born in Spirit, Wisconsin to Louis and Nellie (Cutts) Schmidt on June 22, 1938. After completing high school at Lincoln High School in Wisconsin Rapids, Arnie went into the Army. He later moved to Oregon where he met his wife Katheryn. He worked hard to support his family, working for the city of Portland, until he retired. Arnie’s love of the outdoors continued throughout his life. He grew the biggest tomatoes in the neighborhood and always kept roses for Katie. In appropriate seasons, Arnie could be found either hunting or fishing, spending August at the Oregon Coast for Salmon season and clamming. For Arnie, there were no strangers. He made friends wherever he went, looking to help those he could. He was an expert at making things work with what he had on hand and frequently made repairs with only duct tape and wire. Possessing a strong sense of humor, Arnie loved to laugh and made others join in with him.
Arnie passed away on November 30, 2020. He is survived by his daughter, Karen and son, Glen. He is also survived by four granddaughters, one great-granddaughter and three great-grandsons; his brother, Wayne; sister, Francis; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He is proceeded in death by Katheryn; his parents, Louis and Nellie; and his brother Leroy.
There will be a graveside service at Willamette National Cemetery, 11800 SE Mt. Scott Blvd, Portland, Oregon 97086 on December 20, 2020 at 11:00am.
