Obituary of Alma E Mullan
Alma E. Mullan
August 1926 - November 2020
Alma was the daughter of Emma and Abraham Erickson, and sister to Mildred. She married (John) Jack Mullan, and was the mother of four daughters: Sonja (Mullan) Nevin, JoAnne (Mullan) Godefoy, Pam (Mullan) Simser and Dianne (Mullan) Irish. Cherished grandmother to Maria (Godefoy) Bushman, Damon Nevin, Rachel (Godefoy) Cobban, Wilson Nevin, Josias Aiken, Alisha Aiken, Sarah (Simser) Arnsberg, and Corey Simser, and 10 great-grandchildren. Alma had many nieces and nephews, but remained close with Jack’s twin sister’s daughter, Jackie, and her family living in the Milwaukie area. Alma had cousins in the states and as far as Norway where she and her sister, Mildred, visited on their “big tour”.
At the young age of 48, Alma had a cerebral aneurism, resulting in a stroke, leaving her right side of her body partially paralyzed and limited speech. With determination, she beat all odds. She was at first bedridden, but through determination and hard work she progressed to a wheelchair, a walker, a cane, then graduated to only a leg brace!
Alma never felt sorry for herself, nor would she allow others to do for her without trying first. When asked how she could always be so cheerful she said, “Morning, God!” She was a blessing!
Alma was a wonderful mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. A beautiful woman inside and out, she was loved by all who knew her. She enjoyed being with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She was always busy gardening, doing her home improvement projects, knitting, sewing, you name it she did it, or she would find a way that she COULD do it! There was truly nothing that she would not try and though it may have taken her a bit longer, she finished what she started and did it so beautifully.
The one word that stood out for her, was "TRY", and that she did. Her example encouraged all who knew her, and instilled courage in her family to never give up!
Her selfless loving heart endeared her to all, especially her family. Knowing that she is with the Lord is comforting, but she is greatly missed.
A family graveside service will be held in 2021.
