Obituary of Robert Ronald Hall

Robert “Bob” Hall passed away October 18, 2020 in Tigard Oregon, due to complications from a lingering illness. Robert was 75 years old when he passed.

Bob was born August 11,1945 in Van Nuys, California at a military hospital, where his father was stationed at the end of WWII. He was the first child of Alice & Delbert Hall.

Bob grew up in Central and Eastern Oregon. During his early years he lived on a family farm in Alfalfa, Oregon and attended a rural school district. His family later moved to Haines, Oregon and he graduated from Baker Senior high school with the class of 1963. He grew up riding horses, and later in his youth he traded riding for driving shiny cars.

Upon graduating from Eastern Oregon University he earned his Bachelor of Science in General Studies. He then
attended the Air Force Academy in Pensacola, Florida. In letters home to his parents he noted “I am sitting on a beach with all of my hair cut off.” After his service he was honorably discharged, and returned to the West Coast.

Upon returning to Oregon, Bob moved to Portland and became a successful convenience store owner. He retired in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico and lived there for 4 years, returning to Oregon every 5-6 months for medical checkouts and to visit family. He permanently returned to Portland in 2016 to receive medical care.

Bob’s interests included: flying his airplane, traveling to the beaches of Mexico, completing remodeling work on his home, and he enjoyed playing pinochle and poker.

In the last few years his grandnieces called him “Uncle Bob” and that always brought a smile to his face. Although Bob lived his life as an independent bachelor, he was never truly alone, as he regularly visited with his relatives. Bob was fiercely independent, self motivated, quickwitted and direct. Bob’s absence will be missed by those who knew him and loved him.

His is survived by his sister Susan, niece Bianca, nephew Mauricio, his grandnieces, grandnephews, cousins and friends. He was proceeded in death by his parents Delbert and Alice Hall.

There will be a graveside memorial service for Bob at Riverview Cemetery, Friday October 30 at 1:00 where he will be laid to rest. Following safety protocols the service will be followed by a small gathering at a nearby family home, where his loved ones will share stories and eat some of his favorite foods.
