Obituary of Thomas M. O'Dell

Thomas (Odie) O’Dell from Salem, Oregon left this earth to sing and praise the lord forever. I was born April 29th 1950 in Tempe, Arizona and moved to Tucson in August 1950. My parents were Olen & Mavis O’Dell.  I grew up in the Sam Hughes district until I turned 18 years old. I attended Sam Hughes Elementary, Mansfeld Junior High & Tucson High School. From January 1970 until March 1986 I worked at the Duvall Mine in Tucson. From 1986 to 2011, I was employed by the State of Arizona D.O.C. as a correctional officer. My passions were music, family and friends. I enjoyed making people laugh and had a great sense of humor. Survived by my wife Phyllis and two daughters Melony and husband Ed (Groff), Kristin and husband James. My loving wife Phyllis was a great comfort, a friend and soulmate who’s strength through difficult times was appreciated by me more than words can say. I was optimistic, looked for the good in people and dismissed the faults.  My hopes and dreams always kept me going. My last words are, I hate to leave, but it’s time to go. At last I am a free bird singing with Lynyrd Skynyrd in that big chair in the the sky. Bye y’all, love each other, life is short. Left this earth October 15th, 2020.
