Darrell C Sample “Curt”
Curt Sample, 72 years old, passed away Sept 30, 2020 at St. Vincent's Hospital with his family by his side. He suffered from an autoimmune disease.
Curt's family, including 4 boys and the family dog moved to Newberg in 1960. They packed up the family 1959 Plymouth 9 passenger station wagon, camping along the way at many famous spots on the way to Oregon. The boys enjoyed the trip and spoke often about it.
Curt was a veteran of the Air Force and had a tour of duty in Vietnam in 1967.
In 1971, Curt married Sue Gettman, they divorced in 1986. Curt later married Fusa Yamaguchi Roan in 1990.
Curt had a lifelong passion for cars and motorcycles and racing gave him many weekends of fun with his brothers at Woodburn Dragstrip and PIR. He also enjoyed hunting with many buddies over the years and enjoyed hiking through the forest.
Curt was in sales and marketing for much of his career and enjoyed getting to know and become friends with his clients, he was also past president of Chehalem Valley Sportsman Club.
Curt is survived by his wife Fusa, his brother Greg and sister-in-law Chris Sample. He also has nieces and nephews around the U.S. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Steve and Delbert Sample and by his father George Sample and his mother, Leona McCray.
Memorial donations may be made to Tunnels To Towers, Wounded Warriors and Shriners Children's Hospital.
