Obituary of Frieda Anne Ryland

Frieda Anne (Matson) Ryland passed away peacefully in her Corbett, Oregon home of pancreatic cancer, September 19, 2020. She was 73.

 

Frieda was born and raised in St. Helens, Oregon. She was a Portland State University graduate, a buyer at Portland General Electric, and a substitute teacher for Reynolds School District.

 

She was a passionate gardener, volunteer at Multnomah County Library, community activist and member of the Troutdale Historical Society; and a founding member of a renegade offshoot of the Columbian Garden Club, the Brazen Hussies Collective.

 

She was an exuberant lover of life, a dedicated friend, and beloved wife, mother and grandmother.

 

Frieda was preceded in death by her mother and father, Letha (Isbell) Matson and Olaf Matson; and her brother, Bill Matson. She is survived by her husband, Dennis Wayne Ryland; daughter, Nisse (Gulker) Keenom; and granddaughters, Matson Anne and Minna Kimberly Tomsha.

 

In lieu of flowers Frieda's family requests charitable donations in her name to Friends of the Columbia Gorge.
