Obituary of Jean Carol Ullman
Jean C. Ullman passed peacefully on Tuesday, September 8th at the age of 92. Born in Appleton, Wisconsin, she spent her childhood years living in Wisconsin and Port Arthur, Ontario, Canada. Jean’s family moved to Lake Oswego, Oregon when her Father, Alfred T. Gardner went to work for a paper mill in Portland. Jean attended Oregon State University from 1946 – 1949 where she met the love of her life and married Robert E. Ullman (deceased 1995) in May of 1950. While at OSU, Jean became a member of the Phi Chapter of Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority, something she would cherish for the rest of her life. Wanting to give back to the Sorority, in 1998 she established the Jean Gardner Ullman Leadership Endowment for Phi Chapter which was designated for leadership development opportunities for the Sisters of the chapter at Oregon State University.
In addition to her role as Wife, Homemaker, and raising three Boys, Jean had a variety of interests that contributed to the community. She found enjoyment as a Scout Den Mother and sharing her passion for arts and crafts. She had a love of painting that carried on for years. She was an active member of the Vermont Hills United Methodist Church for 40 plus years. Jean volunteered for Loaves and Fishes (Meals on Wheels) for more than 30 years. A highlight during the Christmas holidays was Jean’s participation in decorating the Pittock Mansion.
Survivors include Sons, David of Beaverton, OR, Larry of Granite Bay, CA, Sister, Beth Sojourner of Richmond, Tx, Grandson, Chris, Step Grandsons, Jason Winkler, Michael, and Brandon Ullman.
