Obituary of Jonathan Charles Eldridge

Jon was born in Maidenhead, England, the eldest of four brothers and five sisters. He graduated from Bishop’s Wordsworth School in Salisbury. He then entered the British military as a boy solider, then selected for The Royal Academy Sandhurst and two years later graduating as a 2nd Lieutenant. The first regiment he joined was The Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers, and finished in the Intelligence Corps. He served in Northern Ireland, Germany, Hong Kong (became a Mandarin interpreter), Cyprus and England. Jon retired from the military as a Major in 1978 after twenty years of service.

He then moved to Oregon with his wife and family. Started a business in antiques and then joined the Marriott Hotels when it first opened in Portland. A few years later he was transferred to Salt Lake City as the Director of Personnel and ended his career in Denver, Colorado. He then returned to Portland and worked for several different companies and in Real Estate retiring in 2006.

He leaves his wife, Liz, of 53 years, two children, Mark and Niki, two grandchildren, Cameron and Allison, and a great grandson, Liam. He enjoyed trains, skiing, classical music and playing the piano. His book collection was extensive, loving to read. We will all miss him and wish him peace.
