Obituary of Joyce Louise Brewer

Joyce Louise Brewer – June 27, 1929, to July 1, 2020

Joyce was born on June 27, 1929, in Kings Valley, Oregon to John Anton and Imogene Pearl (Townsend) Turner-Richardson.

She attended grade school and high school in Kings Valley and completed high school in Chicago, Illinois, and took some college courses. For 17 years Joyce served as a clerk at the Corvallis Public Library.

Joyce lived for 20 years in Salyer, California while married to Kenny Jones. When they divorced, Joyce moved back to the Kings Valley area and married Donald J Brewer on May 10, 1974, in Reno, Nevada, who remained her husband until he passed away in February 2010. They were married for 36 years.

Joyce loved gardening and in Kings Valley, they grew a variety of fruit trees and a big vegetable garden, along with a wide variety of flowers.

Joyce loved to ride her mower and sing praises to the Lord at the top of her lungs.  She also loved old things that reminded her of days gone by. She had a nice collection of old blue bottles and in her younger years, she loved to dig through old family homesteads and dumps. She and Don loved to go to Depoe Bay and eat seafood and watch the ocean.

Joyce had a little dog name Yokohama, who she called Yokie, and for years she would pen stories about Yokie’s escapades as if he was the writer, much to the delight of family and friends.

Joyce loved the Lord and faithfully attended the Pentecostal Church of God in Corvallis where she would sometimes lead the worship service. She enjoyed attending any kind of Christian event, even traveling to Redding, CA to hear some of her favorite speakers. She always looked forward to and loved attending the Pentecostal Church of God Women’s Camp Meeting in Drain, Oregon.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, John and Imogene, her husband, Don, and her sister, Shirley Gish. She is survived by her brother, Wayne Turner of Kings Valley, nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held in the Kings Valley Pioneer Cemetery in Kings Valley, OR at a later date and will be updated here.

For the Family and Friends of Joyce Turner Brewer

In your time of sorrow and in your time of grief,

Rely on God, our Father, for in Him you'll find relief.

For Joyce is with our Savior, of that you can be sure,

A fact that stands forever.  It is written in God’s Word.

For she, herself, was well prepared, knew soon would be her time

As the angels stood in readiness for God to give the sign.

So as she closed her tired eyes when leaving from this earth

She opened them like a brand new babe – in heaven, a new birth.

For He had called, "Come home, My child.  It's time for you to rest."

He said, "Well done, My faithful one, you've done your very best."

And then as Jesus greeted her, His arms stretched open wide,

His face was shining with joy and love as He pulled her to His side.

The Father said, “You gave of Me, bearing witness to each one,

You shared the love of Jesus, bringing Glory to My Son.

You helped each one as best you could, that made all heaven smile,

You always gave from a cheerful heart, you went the extra mile.

And you might have thought you didn’t do much, the Lord had plenty others

But it was your heart that Jesus loved, for many you did mother.

They may not have come from your body’s womb, but through you they did learn

That Jesus was the Only Way, His gift they could not earn.

A gentle hand, a warm embrace, the sharing of My Word,

A simple prayer being whispered, the sweetest things I’ve ever heard.

So welcome, Joyce, come right on in, you’ve reached your destination

See all the folks you’ve told about Me that brought them their salvation.

And don’t forget your friends and family, they go back for generations

You’re the guest they’ve come to see, you have met their expectations."

And so we know that Joyce is doing what she loves to do,

Singing and rejoicing, and probably gardening, too.

If they let her, she’d be mowin’, riding God’s big ol’ John Deere

All the time praising Him, hearing with brand new ears!

Her eyes no longer bother her, her aches and pains are gone

And she’s probably doing the happy dance in heaven where she belongs.

She’s now a part of the family that extends beyond our sight

Where she will wait until it’s time when we, too, leave this life.

For we can see her once again and never more to part

If we will ask the King of Kings, Lord Jesus, in our hearts.

Just listen to that wee, small voice that comes from deep within

And know that it is Jesus if you only let Him in.

Confess your sins, receive His grace and then you, too, will know,

The peace and joy that Joyce has found when you, to heaven, go.

Let not your heart be troubled, nor be not in despair

It’s a time of celebration for Joyce and Jesus await you there.

 Joyce always said,

"Ain’t No Grave Gonna Hold My Body Down!!"

and when her gravestone is placed, her epitaph will read
Here lies a Pentecostal Believer

Who Loves the Lord with all her Heart
