Obituary of Randall Renting Jones
Randall Renting Jones
Born Thursday, September 11th, 1947 at St. Elizabeth hospital in Yakima, Washington. Died Friday, May 8th, 2020 at Elderly Care Home in Tigard, Oregon.
Randy showed much musical aptitude, due in no small part to his musical teaching parents, Theodore and Petronella (Pat) Jones; winning awards for his excellence while playing trumpet all through junior and senior high school. He overcame many childhood diseases of the time to become a consistent student on the honor roll all through high school, graduating from Washington State’s Wapato High School in 1965. His love for electronics and inventing led him to attend the University of Washington to pursue a degree in engineering, graduating in the spring of 1969.
Randy married his 1st wife, Ann Spicer, and they went to California for him to work for an electronics firm. He accepted a position returning them to Portland to work for Electro Scientific Industries, Oregon’s oldest tech company for which he was the manager of new product production. He and Ann parted ways in 1975.
Candise Duboff and Randy fell in love, marrying in 1976 and built a home together in the Bluffs of North Cedar Hills in Beaverton, Oregon. Candi was a promising young attorney but in 1979 was tragically murdered shielding her client from her client’s husband as he pulled out a gun. She was representing the woman in a divorce case at the Multnomah County courthouse. Because of this, the movement for metal detectors was spearheaded in all courtrooms and a fund was set up at Lewis & Clark Law School from which she was a graduate.
From the trauma, Randy suffered a severe brain hemorrhage from a ruptured vascular formation shortly after Candi’s death. He had brain surgery to correct this and in 1980 went to California Berkeley with his parents, where Randy had various kinds of physical, occupational, and speech therapy at Kaiser's main rehab facility in Vallejo for three years.
During this time Pat, Randy's mother, returned to school to better learn how to care for her oldest son. Upon returning from California, Randy lived with his parents in the house that he and Candi built enjoying a full program of therapy helping them to create a measure of the quality of life for him. In 1986 Randy’s parents established a home for brain-injured young people in Lake Oswego, Oregon. He happily resided there until 2006 where his health dictated that he be moved to Elderly Care Home in Tigard for more personal care. Randy’s close family (sister-in-law, Cate, brother, Scott, and nephew, Isaac) provided companionship, aid, and transportation to countless and various appointments. Isaac especially cherished the last two decades of Randy’s life as his companion keeping him mobile, swimming early on, walks in the mall, physical therapy exercises, singing songs, and playing music, which Randy loved.
Randy’s health steadily declined and finally, at 3 AM 5/8/20, he succumbed to complications from his brain injury and pneumonia. He was preceded in death by his wife, Candi Duboff Jones, his father, Ted Jones, and his uncle, Howard Jones. He is survived by his mother, Pat Jones, his brother, Scott Jones, his sister-in-law, Cate Jones, his two nephews, Judah Jones and wife Lisa, and Isaac Jones and wife Jennifer, and his 4 great-nephews and 2 great-nieces. He is also survived by his aunt, Anita Weber, his 2nd cousin, Tom Heuterman, and many other cousins and 2nd cousins on both his father's side of the family and his mother's side of the family.
A memorial service celebrating Randy’s life will be held at a later date when family members are able to join us.
